How to Connect Claude to Facebook and Instagram with dmswift (MCP)
A practical setup guide for letting Claude run your Facebook Page and Instagram professional account through dmswift: scheduling, comment-to-DM campaigns, comment replies, inbox and analytics, with copy-paste prompts and safety rules.
Who this is for: creators, coaches and small business owners who run a Facebook Page or an Instagram professional account, already use Claude (or ChatGPT), and are tired of copy-pasting between the chat window and Meta Business Suite. No coding required. Setup takes a few minutes, and after that every action on your page is one sentence in chat.
The problem: your AI can write the post, but it can't hit Publish
Here's the workflow most people I talk to are stuck in. Ask Claude for a caption. Copy it. Open Meta Business Suite. Paste. Upload the image. Pick a time. Then go dig through comments, answer them one by one, and manually DM a link to everyone who typed "price".
Claude does the thinking, and you do the busywork. The reason is simple: until you connect it, Claude has zero access to your page. It only sees what you paste into the chat.
That's the gap MCP closes.
MCP in two minutes
MCP (Model Context Protocol) is an open standard Anthropic released in late 2024, and today almost every major AI tool supports it. It lets Claude connect to an outside service and get a set of tools from it: predefined actions it can run on its own, like "schedule this post" or "pull the latest comments".
Two things worth knowing up front:
- Claude never gets your Facebook password. It only gets the tools the connected service exposes, and only the ones you approve.
- The service talks to Meta, not Claude. In this setup that service is dmswift, which works through Meta's official API.
If you want the deeper technical picture of how MCP servers get wired into an AI client, I cover it in Claude Code MCP Integration.
What dmswift is, and why I built it
I built dmswift because I wanted exactly this: an AI agent running my pages, without scraping, without browser automation, and without sketchy "growth bots" that put the account at risk.
dmswift runs Facebook Pages and Instagram professional accounts through Meta's official Graph API. It has a normal dashboard, and it has an MCP server that plugs it into Claude and other AI agents. Once connected, Claude can:
- Draft, schedule and publish posts, Reels, Stories and carousels
- Run comment-to-DM campaigns (the "Comment GUIDE and I'll send it to you" playbook)
- Reply to comments, hide spam, and like comments on Facebook
- Read and answer inbox conversations
- Pull numbers: reach, views, campaign results, and unanswered questions
- Manage contacts with tags, and a knowledge base it answers from
| Without a connection | With dmswift + MCP | |
|---|---|---|
| Writing a post | Claude writes, you copy and schedule | Claude writes, shows you, then schedules |
| Comments | You answer them by hand | "Answer every question that hasn't gotten a reply" |
| Comment-to-DM | A separate tool and manual setup | One sentence in chat |
| Analytics | You copy numbers out of Insights | "What was my best post this month, and why?" |
| Control | Total, but slow | Total: scopes, approval mode and daily caps |
What you need before you start
- A Facebook Page and/or an Instagram professional account (Business or Creator). Personal Instagram accounts won't work, because Meta doesn't open them to outside tools. Facebook Groups aren't supported either, because Meta doesn't allow automated private replies there.
- Claude on web, desktop or mobile, or Claude Code. Custom connectors depend on your Claude plan, and in an organization, on what the owner allows.
- A dmswift account. As of October 2026 there's a 7-day Pro trial with no credit card, and MCP access is included starting with the Starter plan.
Not on Claude? The same connection works with ChatGPT, Cursor, n8n, Gemini and more. Details below.
Step 1: Connect your page to dmswift
- Go to dmswift.com and start a trial.
- Choose Continue with Facebook and approve the permissions Meta shows you. Those are what let dmswift publish, read comments and send messages as your page.
- Pick the pages you want to connect.
- For Instagram, connect through a Facebook Page linked to your professional account, or directly with Instagram login.
Tip: if Instagram publishing fails later with a permissions error, it's almost always because the publishing permission wasn't checked during login. Just reconnect and check it.
Step 2: Add dmswift as a connector in Claude
Claude on web, desktop or mobile
- In Claude, open Customize, then Connectors, then Add custom connector.
- Name the connector dmswift.
- Paste the dmswift URL (it's right below this list, ready to copy) into the URL field.
- Click Connect. dmswift's sign-in opens. Sign in and read the consent screen.
- On the consent screen, pick your channels and approval mode (details below).
- Back in a chat, turn on the dmswift connector from the tools menu and start asking.
The URL to paste:
https://app.dmswift.com/mcp
On the consent screen you decide two things:
- Which channels Claude can see: all of them, or just one.
- Whether to check Ask me before anything is published, so every publish waits for your approval. More on that in the safety section.
No API key to copy, no password to paste. It's OAuth, the same flow as "Sign in with Google".
Claude Code
If you live in the terminal:
claude mcp add --transport http dmswift https://app.dmswift.com/mcp
Then run /mcp inside Claude Code, pick dmswift, and the same consent screen opens in your browser.
ChatGPT, Cursor, n8n and others
The same URL works almost everywhere:
| Tool | How to connect |
|---|---|
| ChatGPT | Add a custom MCP server and choose OAuth |
| Cursor | Add the URL to ~/.cursor/mcp.json |
| n8n and scripts | Send an API key in an Authorization: Bearer header |
| Gemini, Grok, Perplexity, Make, Zapier and more | Add it as a remote MCP server by URL |
Step 3: Test the connection
This is the first prompt I run on every new connection:
Which pages and accounts can you see in dmswift? For each one, tell me the platform,
and check what you're allowed to do today: approval mode, and what's left of the daily caps.
Claude will call two tools: one that lists your channels, and one that returns the connection status, including scopes, approval mode, and how many publishes, comments and messages you have left today. If it can see your pages, you're connected.
What Claude can do on your page
Posts: draft, schedule, publish
Claude creates a draft, and only a separate action publishes or schedules it. That's on purpose: drafting and publishing are separate permissions, so you can let it write without letting it post.
- Facebook: text, photos, video and links.
- Instagram: every post needs media, and you pick a type: feed (one photo), carousel (2 to 20 items), Reel (one video) or Story.
Look at my last 10 posts on the page and summarize the style: length, tone, emoji use, call to action.
Then draft a post about [topic] in that same style and show it to me before you schedule anything.
If I approve, schedule it for tomorrow at 12:30 PM Eastern.
Comment-to-DM campaigns
This is the one that changes the game. You set a keyword, and anyone who comments it on a specific post gets a short public reply ("Just sent it to your DMs") plus a private message with whatever you promised: a guide, a price list, a link. Each person gets it once.
On Instagram, a campaign can also start from a story reply, a mention, or an incoming DM.
Set up a campaign on my latest post:
anyone who comments "PRICE" gets a short public reply, and a DM with my pricing page [link].
Before you turn it on, test that it actually matches "price?", "how much" and "what's the price".
That last line matters. Claude has a tool that checks whether a given comment would trigger the campaign before a real person ever types it. It's how you catch a keyword that's too broad or too narrow.
From experience: a keyword like "guide" sounds harmless, but it also catches "your last guide didn't work for me". Pick something distinctive, like a single all-caps word, and have Claude test it against a few real comments from your past posts.
Comments: reply, hide, like
Pull every comment from the past week that hasn't gotten a reply.
Sort them into questions, compliments and spam.
Suggest replies for the questions. Hide the spam, don't delete it.
Why hide instead of delete? Hiding is reversible, deleting isn't. dmswift tells Claude to prefer hiding and only delete when you explicitly ask. Liking comments works on Facebook only, and comments on Instagram are text only.
The inbox
Claude can read conversations and reply, as long as the conversation is still inside Meta's 24-hour window and no one on your team has taken it over manually.
Go through inbox conversations from the last 24 hours.
Tell me who asked about pricing or availability and is still waiting, and suggest a reply for each.
Analytics and insights
Compare my last 10 posts by reach and engagement.
What do the top three have in common, and what should I have done differently on the bottom three?
How many people triggered the PRICE campaign this week, how many got the DM, and how many clicked the link?
A knowledge base for answers
You can load dmswift with a knowledge base: FAQs, pricing, hours. Claude, and dmswift's own AI replies on plans that include them, answer from it instead of making things up.
Add to the knowledge base: we're open Monday to Friday 9 AM to 6 PM Eastern,
shipping is free on orders over $50, and we don't have a physical store.
8 prompts you can copy
1. Weekly content plan
Build me a content plan for next week: 4 Facebook posts and 3 Instagram posts, based on what
performed best over the last month. Show me everything as drafts before you schedule anything.
2. A post in my voice
Write a post about [topic] in the style of my previous posts, show it to me, and once I approve, schedule it for tomorrow at noon.
3. Campaign on my latest Reel
Set up a campaign on my latest Instagram Reel: anyone who comments [WORD] gets [link] in their DMs.
Test the match before you turn it on.
4. Comment cleanup
Hide spam comments from the past week and show me a list of what you hid.
5. Open questions
Pull the questions in my comments that haven't been answered and suggest a reply for each. For pricing questions, point them to DMs.
6. Weekly report
Put together a weekly performance report for the page: reach, top post, campaign results,
and three recommendations for next week.
7. Campaign check-in
How many people got the DM from the campaign and how many clicked the link? Which public reply wording worked best?
8. Lead tagging
Go through the contacts that came in from the PRICE campaign this week and tag anyone who asked a follow-up question as "hot".
Safety: what Claude can and can't do
This is the part I care about most, because it's your business page and real people writing to you.
- Approval mode. If you checked Ask me before anything is published when connecting, every publish waits for your approval in the dmswift dashboard. Note that a connection in this mode also can't schedule, comment or send messages. It's a great way to start, and once you trust the process you can reconnect without it.
- DMs only to people who reached out first. Claude can't message someone who never wrote to your page. Messages only go to people who commented, replied to a story or messaged you, and only inside Meta's 24-hour window. There are no broadcasts for agents. That's both a Meta requirement and part of dmswift's terms.
- Daily caps. Every connection has caps, by default 15 publishes, 30 comments and 100 messages a day. When a cap runs out, Claude gets the reset time and stops.
- Separate scopes. Drafting, publishing, replying to comments and moderating comments are separate permissions, and you can lock a connection to a single page.
- Activity log. Everything the agent did is logged so you can review it later.
- One-click disconnect. On the AI agents page of the dmswift dashboard, disconnect Claude and its access stops immediately.
My rule: Claude never publishes anything I haven't seen. My prompts always say "show me before you post", and I started out in approval mode.
If you're thinking about guardrails for agents more broadly, LLM Guardrails is a good companion read.
Limits worth knowing
- Instagram images: JPEG only, up to 8 MB. Captions up to 2,200 characters and 30 hashtags, and no clickable links in the post itself (put them in the caption or the first comment).
- Deleting on Instagram: Meta doesn't let apps delete Instagram posts through the API. Deleting through Claude only removes the post from dmswift, so you delete the actual post in the app.
- Meta's publishing limit: Meta caps how many posts an Instagram account can publish through the API in 24 hours.
- Instagram DMs: up to 1,000 characters, no buttons.
- Private replies to comments: one per comment, within 7 days of it.
- Facebook Groups aren't supported.
Mistakes people make at the start
- Connecting a personal Instagram account. Switch it to a professional account in the app settings first.
- Picking a keyword that's too broad. "Yes", "interested" or "guide" will catch comments you didn't mean. Pick a distinctive word and test it before you go live.
- Forgetting to turn the connector on in chat. After adding it in settings, you still have to enable dmswift from the tools menu in the conversation.
- Letting Claude publish blind. Always ask for a draft first.
- Expecting it to DM all your followers. It can't, and that's a good thing.
FAQ
Does Claude get my Facebook password?
No. Facebook access goes through Meta's official login to dmswift, and the link between Claude and dmswift is OAuth. Claude only sees the tools and channels you approved on the consent screen.
Will this put my page at risk?
dmswift works through Meta's official API, not scraping or browser automation. On top of that there are daily caps, and no messages go to anyone who didn't reach out first, which is exactly what Meta requires.
Can I manage more than one page?
Yes. How many channels you can connect depends on your dmswift plan. In Claude, the consent screen lets you choose whether it sees all of them or just one.
How is this different from Meta Business Suite?
In Business Suite you do everything yourself. Here you say what you want and Claude does the work: drafts, schedules, analyzes and replies, and only brings you what needs a decision.
Do I need to know how to code?
No. Setup is pasting one URL and signing in. Claude Code and n8n are there if you want more advanced automations.
Does it work with ChatGPT too?
Yes. Add https://app.dmswift.com/mcp as a custom MCP server in ChatGPT and choose OAuth. The same tools and the same safety controls apply.
How much does it cost?
As of October 2026, MCP access is included starting with the Starter plan, and there's a 7-day Pro trial with no credit card. Current pricing is always on the dmswift site.
Wrapping up
Claude already writes good social content. What it was missing is hands: actual access to your page. MCP and dmswift give it that access in a controlled way, through Meta's official API, with scopes, approval mode and daily caps. A few minutes of setup, and running your page turns into a conversation.
Your next three steps:
- Sign up at dmswift and connect your page.
- Add a connector in Claude with the URL
https://app.dmswift.com/mcp. - Run the connection test prompt, then the weekly content plan prompt.
